PAUL SIEGFRIED

While I was born in the suburbs of Chicago, I grew up in the small Indiana towns of Warsaw and Milford. My father was an engineer, and my mother studied math in college, so my sister and I grew up with an interest in science, math and problem-solving. We both initially went to Purdue University for science educations, me in aeronautical engineering and she in physics. Ironically, we both ended up being writers. My path took me from the Purdue Exponent to the Huntington (Ind.) Herald-Press, where I spent 21 years, first as the newspaper's photographer, then as sports editor. The paper sold, and in 2008 our staff broke up and I landed with Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters as their communications coordinator. Over the years, I've stayed involved in various community projects, contributing in leadership and also donating my time and talent. I married Ann Haecker in 1998. She was an English teacher at Huntington North High School, retiring in 2004. She is a strong advocate for the arts in the community, and I have helped contribute to those efforts with my photography and design works. In 2014, I was one of the founding members of Huntington County Honors, a group recognizing past and present individuals who have contributed to life in Huntington County.

THE WEBSITE

After years of having people ask me if I was going to put together a book of my newspaper and photography work, I decided to put some items together on this website for everyone to see. The "WORK" section here is just a sampling. It's mostly stories and photos that have special meaning to me from my time at the newspaper. The “LIFE“ section contains many photos taken away from work, and quite a few from the trips Ann and I have taken over the years. There are also sections on some of my favorite interests — sports, movies and music.

Thanks for taking a look.
